Nguyen Thanh Nhan has been appointed deputy secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term and nominated to be elected chairman of the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee. The decision was announced on the afternoon of 7/9 by Nguyen Thanh Tam, Deputy Head of the Central Organization Commission, who presented the Politburo's directive to Nhan. He is set to replace Pham Thanh Ngai.

On the morning of the same day, the Prime Minister appointed Pham Thanh Ngai, former Chairman of Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee, as Deputy Inspector General of the Government Inspectorate.

Nguyen Thanh Nhan, a native of Phuoc Hoa commune, Ho Chi Minh City, holds a PhD in economics and is a civil engineer. His career includes serving as Secretary of the Ha Tien City Party Committee and Chairman of the Ha Tien City People's Committee, before becoming Vice Chairman and then Chairman of the Kien Giang Provincial People's Committee. Following the merger of An Giang and Kien Giang in 7/2025, Nhan was appointed Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the An Giang Provincial People's Council. In 7/2026, he was transferred to serve as Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of Central Party Agencies.

After merging with Tien Giang, Dong Thap province spans approximately 6,000 km2 and has a population of over 4,2 million. For the 2025-2030 term, the province aims for an average annual economic growth of 9%, a per capita income of 115-120 million dong, and the elimination of all poor households by 2030.
