On the morning of 18/7, the Engineering Command of the Nghe An Provincial Military Command moved the bomb to Truong Son village, Nam Can commune, for safe disposal.
Two days prior, while digging a house foundation in Noong De village, a border commune of Nam Can, Mr. Thoong discovered an object he suspected was a bomb and reported it to the authorities.
Following inspection, authorities identified it as an M117 demolition bomb, manufactured by the US. It weighs 350 kg, is about 1.2 meters long, has a diameter of 42 cm, and still contained its live fuse, though its body was rusty, a remnant from the war.

The bomb was found in a residential area, surrounded by many households. Over the past two days, to ensure safety, authorities dispatched officials to seal off the site, relocate some residents, erect warning signs, and establish checkpoints to cordon off the hazardous area.
During the war, Nghe An was a strategic transit point on the supply route to the South, enduring thousands of bomb raids. Despite numerous clearance efforts, the province still harbors dangerous unexploded ordnance.
