On 18/9, the Lam Dong provincial police traffic police department announced the imposition of fines on 5 bus drivers. These violations were uncovered through the analysis of data from vehicle tracking devices installed on passenger buses operated by Viet Tan Phat company.

Data collected on 14/9 and 15/9 revealed that all 5 drivers continuously operated their vehicles for over 7 hours. One driver, for instance, operated a vehicle from Lai Thieu, Ho Chi Minh City (TP HCM) to Krong No commune (formerly Dak Nong) for 7 hours 52 minutes. The remaining 4 drivers committed similar violations on their routes from Krong No back to Ho Chi Minh City.

Following these discoveries, Traffic Police Team No. 4 summoned the drivers for questioning. Each driver received a fine of 4 million VND, along with a deduction of 2 points from their driving licenses. The owner of Viet Tan Phat transport company also faced a 50 million VND fine. The total amount of fines issued for these infractions reached 70 million VND.

This incident marks the first time Lam Dong traffic police have utilized data from vehicle tracking devices to identify and penalize drivers for exceeding regulated driving times.

According to the Road Traffic Order and Safety Law, drivers of commercial and internal transport vehicles are prohibited from driving for more than 10 hours per day or 48 hours per week. Critically, continuous driving time must not exceed 4 hours. This regulation aims to ensure adequate rest periods for drivers, thereby reducing the risk of accidents caused by fatigue or drowsiness.
