The bomb was found in the garden of Dau Thi Nghi (Hamlet 1, Than Linh commune, Huong Son district, Ha Tinh province) on the afternoon of 29/6. The cylindrical bomb, measuring over 2 meters long and 0.4 meters in diameter, still had its detonator intact, although the head and tail sections were rusted.
After removing the external layer of soil, authorities identified it as an MK83 bomb, one of the largest explosive devices ever found in the area, a remnant from the war.

Upon receiving the report, the Than Linh Commune Military Command, in coordination with the Regional Defense Command 1 - Van An, immediately secured the scene, evacuating residents and livestock from the danger zone.
For six days, the area was cordoned off and guarded around the clock to ensure safety and prevent access.
On 4/7, the Engineering Department of the Nghe An Provincial Military Command successfully neutralized the detonators and transported the bomb to Khe Luoi area, Hamlet 8, Than Linh commune, for safe disposal.
During the war, Nghe An served as a strategic transit point on the supply route to the south, enduring thousands of bombing raids. Despite numerous post-war clearance operations, some dangerous unexploded ordnance remains buried underground.
