Awning collapse kills worker

A multi-ton awning collapsed unexpectedly during construction work on a row of kiosks along Le Duan street, killing a 36-year-old male worker on the afternoon of 7/10.

Around 1 PM, a group of workers was repairing kiosks on Le Duan street, passing through An Phuoc commune, when the awning suddenly gave way. Vu Tat Thanh, 36, who was standing beneath the structure, was crushed and trapped by the heavy concrete slab.

Despite immediate assistance from many individuals, the concrete block was too heavy to free Thanh. Authorities later used a crane to lift the slab and extricate the victim, but he had already died.

According to leaders from An Phuoc commune People's Committee, Le Duan street is currently undergoing upgrades and expansion. Many households with street frontage had to be cleared, leading to repair work on the structures. The incident occurred as the workers were dismantling some components.

Police are investigating the incident.
