Beechcraft B300 special aircraft conducts inspection flights at Lien Khuong

A Beechcraft B300 special aircraft is conducting calibration flights at Lien Khuong Airport before the Da Lat-connected airport reopens for operations from mid-next month.

On 23/7, a Beechcraft B300 special aircraft departed from Cam Ranh Airport in Khanh Hoa, then flew over Lam Dong airspace along various trajectories, altitudes, and distances. These flights aimed to inspect and calibrate the navigation equipment and signal light systems at Lien Khuong Airport, following a period of renovation.

The calibration flights are taking place day and night until 28/7, under the supervision of the Civil Aviation Authority of Vietnam, Vietnam Air Traffic Management Corporation (VATM), and Airports Corporation of Vietnam (ACV).

The Beechcraft B300, a US-made, high-speed propeller aircraft, is used for specialized missions. These include calibration flights, business transport, medical emergencies, patrol, and reconnaissance.

Lien Khuong Airport, built in 1933 in Duc Trong commune, has undergone multiple upgrades. The most recent renovation in 1997 extended the runway to 2,354 m, meeting the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) 3C standard.

In early March this year, the airport temporarily ceased operations to undertake an infrastructure upgrade project for the airfield area, with a total capital exceeding 1,000 billion VND. This initiative aims to enhance operational capacity, ensure flight safety, and meet the increasing transportation demands of the Central Highlands region.

Reopening from 19/8, Lien Khuong Airport expects to handle an average of 36-40 daily flights, connecting with Ho Chi Minh City, Hanoi, Da Nang, Vinh, Can Tho, and Hai Phong. The Da Lat - Kuala Lumpur (Malaysia) international route is also expected to be restored, with eight round-trip flights each week.

According to the master plan, by 2030, Lien Khuong Airport will achieve Category 4E airport status, with an annual capacity of 5 million passengers and 20,000 tons of cargo. In the next phase, the runway will be extended to 3,600 m, increasing its capacity to 7 million passengers per year.
