Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway develops cracks

A section of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway in Phuoc Tan ward shows multiple cracks and subsidence over approximately 100 m following heavy rain and an embankment collapse along the Buong river.

On 29/9, Truong Son Construction Corporation, in coordination with Dong Nai city authorities, surveyed the expressway section in Mieu residential area, Phuoc Tan ward, to address the cracks and subsidence.

In recent days, following heavy rain and flooding, the embankment adjacent to the Buong river suffered a landslide. The road surface developed multiple cracks and signs of subsidence, extending approximately 100 m towards the river.

In the lane from Dong Nai to TP HCM, in addition to the cracks, holes approximately 10 cm deep and 40 cm long appeared, with hollowed-out areas underneath. The edges of the collapsed holes were jagged, extending for about 5 m.

The slope of the embankment along the route also experienced landslides and fractures. Strong water flow at the base of the road carried away soil and rocks, creating hollow cavities beneath the foundation.

This area was repaired last month after an incident involving one 7-seat oto in an accident.

A representative from Truong Son Construction Corporation, the contractor for this road section, stated that the area with subsidence and road cracks has a weak soil foundation and is affected by the Buong river. Heavy rain caused the river's water level to rise, impacting the road foundation, leading to subsidence and the development of cracks.

Initially, the contractor will address the cracks and subsidence to ensure vehicle safety. Long-term, the unit will coordinate with Dong Nai city to research solutions for reinforcing and stabilizing the road foundation. One considered option is to build a concrete embankment along the Buong river to protect the road base.

Previously, the Dong Nai City Transport Construction Investment Management Board, the investor for component one of the Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway project, requested contractors to review and repair landslide and subsidence points in the Buong river area, ensuring construction quality and infrastructure safety.

The Bien Hoa - Vung Tau expressway is nearly 54 km long, with an investment of approximately 17,800 billion VND, comprising three component projects. The entire route was temporarily opened from 18/5, allowing oto with fewer than 9 seats to travel at a maximum speed of 80 km/h.
