On the evening of 27/8, a group of eight people were having a meal along the Dong Nai River, near Bao Thuan commune. As they boarded a boat to return to shore later that night, the vessel capsized.
Le Trong Tai, 33, and Nguyen Van Luong, 38, were swept away by the water and went missing. The remaining six individuals managed to swim to shore.

Bao Thuan commune authorities coordinated search and rescue efforts throughout the night. Operations were challenging due to cold temperatures and strong currents. After many hours, Luong's body was recovered.
By noon on 28/8, dozens of personnel had formed multiple teams, expanding the search area for Tai along the Dong Nai River.
The Dong Nai River, approximately 586 km long, is Vietnam's longest domestic river. It originates from the northern mountains of the Lang Biang plateau and flows through Lam Dong, Dong Nai, and TP HCM.
