The missing vessel, identified as fishing boat QNa-90859 TS, measures 23,9 m in length and has a power output of 1,682 horsepower. The boat, specializing in squid fishing, is owned and captained by Huynh Van Tri, 47 years old, from Nui Thanh commune, Da Nang. It departed from the An Hoa Border Guard Checkpoint on 29/7, carrying the captain and 49 laborers.

According to the Vietnam Coastal Information System, the vessel's last tracking signal was recorded at 12:54 on 25/8. Its position was approximately 540 nautical miles southeast of Son Tra cape, Da Nang, and about 35 nautical miles west of An Bang island, Truong Sa special zone, Khanh Hoa. The area was experiencing southwesterly winds of force 5-6 and rough seas at the time.

After reviewing monitoring systems, authorities identified three Gia Lai-registered fishing boats operating 12-20 nautical miles from the incident site. The Da Nang City Border Guard informed the Gia Lai Provincial Border Guard and Regional Maritime Search and Rescue Coordination Center IV. This was done to mobilize these vessels to assist in observing and searching for the missing boat.

Concurrently, the Da Nang City Border Guard requested the Da Nang City People's Committee and the City Civil Defense Steering Committee to report to the National Civil Defense Steering Committee. The goal is to direct all relevant forces to participate in the search operation.

The Vietnam Coastal Information System is also broadcasting urgent announcements continuously via radio and NAVTEX. These broadcasts aim to mobilize all vessels operating in the area to assist in the search for the missing fishing boat.
