At approximately 5 p.m. on 22/6, Tai was driven by his father, Nguyen Trong Phu, 54, residing in Truong Vinh ward, Nghe An province, to Xuan Thanh beach tourist area in Tien Dien commune (formerly Nghi Xuan district) for a swim. While swimming, Mr. Phu is suspected to have suffered a sudden medical emergency, and his body was washed ashore by the waves. Tai subsequently went missing.
Over the past day, local authorities collaborated with border guard forces, mobilizing fishing boats and rescue canoes to search the sea. They also organized teams to search for the victim along the coastline.
Xuan Thanh is one of Ha Tinh province's major beaches, attracting many tourists during summer. While the area features a gentle sandy shore, some sections have rip currents and deep holes, posing potential safety risks for swimmers.
For nearly one week, Ha Tinh has experienced hot weather, reaching 39 degrees Celsius, leading to a significant increase in beachgoers, especially in the afternoon. Authorities advise beachgoers, particularly children and older individuals, to have a supervisor accompany them to prevent incidents.
