Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee (UBND TP HCM) has announced plans for a fireworks display on the evening of 2/7, from 9 p.m. to 9:15 p.m., to mark the 50th anniversary of Saigon - Gia Dinh being renamed Ho Chi Minh City (2/7/1976 - 2/7/2026).
The city will feature 16 fireworks locations spread across various areas following its recent expansion.
Five high-altitude and low-altitude fireworks locations include: the Saigon River Tunnel entrance area in An Khanh ward; the New City Center in Binh Duong ward; Tam Thang Square in Vung Tau ward; the Cu Chi Tunnels Historical Site in An Nhon Tay commune; and the Can Gio Coastal Tourism Urban Area.

The 11 low-altitude fireworks locations are: the former Binh Chanh District Military Command compound in Tan Nhut commune; Ben Noc Temple area in Tang Nhon Phu ward; Tan My Ward Administrative Center Square; Dat Do Commune Public Service Supply Center; Pier 914 Historical Site, Con Dao Special Zone; Ngai Giao Commune Resettlement Area Park; Dau Tieng Commune Culture - Sports and Radio Center Football Field; Minh Thanh Commune Culture - Sports and Community Learning Center Football Field; Vuon Cau Residential Project in Lai Thieu ward; Saigon Marina IFC Tower at 2 Ton Duc Thang, Saigon ward; and Hung Vuong Street, Van Hanh residential area, Phu My ward.
Among these sites, the Saigon River Tunnel entrance area will host the largest display, featuring 1,000 high-altitude fireworks, 200 low-altitude fireworks, and 78 firework racks. High-altitude fireworks will also be launched in Can Gio, Cu Chi Tunnels, Binh Duong New City Center, and Tam Thang Square to serve residents in gateway areas and districts far from the city center.
Funding for the event will be mobilized from socialized capital and corporate sponsorships at some locations.
The date 2/7/2026 marks 50 years since the National Assembly decided to rename Saigon - Gia Dinh as Ho Chi Minh City, ushering in a new development phase for Vietnam's largest metropolis. To commemorate this occasion, the city is undertaking numerous celebratory activities, notably the groundbreaking of several major transport infrastructure projects designed to improve connectivity within the expanded city.
The fireworks display adheres to Decree 137/2020, which permits Hanoi and TP HCM to organize additional displays on april 30th, in addition to major holidays like lunar new year and national day (september 2nd).
