Breadfruit tree uproots, crushes car in Ho Chi Minh City

A nearly 10-meter-tall breadfruit tree on the sidewalk of Huyen Tran Cong Chua street in Tam Thang ward unexpectedly uprooted and fell onto the road, crushing a parked car on the afternoon of 6/3.

Around 3 p.m., a breadfruit tree, nearly 10 meters tall with a trunk diameter exceeding 20 cm, located in front of house number 270 on Huyen Tran Cong Chua street (formerly Ba Ria - Vung Tau), unexpectedly uprooted and fell onto the road.

The tree trunk landed on the rear of a 5-seater car parked close to the curb, denting the area behind the driver's seat. Fortunately, the canopy did not hit any passing motorcyclists.

At the time of the incident, the weather was sunny with light winds.

At the scene, the tree's root ball was dislodged from the ground, revealing shallow roots, and its foliage covered part of the road. After authorities cut the tree trunk into sections to clear the scene, the car was moved. The incident was resolved in about one hour.

The tree trunk fell across the road, blocking one lane. *Minh Bang*

In Ho Chi Minh City, incidents of trees uprooting or branches breaking occasionally occur, potentially falling onto cars, motorcycles, or blocking roads, causing property damage and disrupting traffic. In some cases, large trees or branches falling during heavy rain and strong winds have injured passersby.
