On the afternoon of 27/3, the Can Tho City People's Council elected Dong Van Thanh, Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council for the 2021–2026 term, to continue serving as Chairman of the city People's Council. The deputy chairmen include Ma Thi Tuoi, Vo Thi My Trang, Ly RoTha, and Tran Quoc Vu.

Dong Van Thanh, 57, is a native of Can Tho. Following the merger of Can Tho City with Hau Giang and Soc Trang from 1/7/2025, the Central Government appointed him as Permanent Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee and Chairman of the city People's Council, transitioning from his role as Secretary of the Hau Giang Provincial Party Committee. He is currently a member of the Party Central Committee.
During the session, the People's Council also elected Truong Canh Tuyen, Deputy Secretary of the City Party Committee, as Chairman of the Can Tho City People's Committee for the 2026–2031 term. The five deputy chairmen of the People's Committee include Nguyen Thi Ngoc Diep, Vuong Quoc Nam, Nguyen Van Khoi, Nguyen Van Hoa, and Tran Chi Hung.
Tuyen, 57, is a native of Thanh Hoa. He previously worked in Hau Giang and Can Tho before serving as Chairman of the city People's Committee for the 2021–2026 term.

Can Tho City spans over 6,360 square kilometers, with a population exceeding 3.2 million across 103 communes and wards. It is one of the six centrally run cities. For the 2025–2030 period, the locality aims for economic growth of over 10% annually, aspiring to become a growth pole, radiating influence and leading the region.
The current Secretary of the Can Tho City Party Committee is Le Quang Tung, formerly the Secretary General of the National Assembly.
