The Central Organization Commission announced the decision at a conference in An Giang on the morning of 25/7.
According to the politburo's decision, Tung will step down from his role as secretary of Can Tho city party committee and related positions. He has been assigned and appointed to the executive committee, standing committee, and as secretary of An Giang provincial party committee. He will also join the party committee of Military Region 9.

Tung succeeds Nguyen Tien Hai, who has been reassigned to the Ministry of Home Affairs and nominated for minister of home affairs.
Presenting the decision at the conference, Nguyen Duy Ngoc, head of the Central Organization Commission, praised the new An Giang provincial party committee secretary as well-trained, having grown from grassroots levels, and held many positions at both central and local levels.
Originally from Ha Tinh, Le Quang Tung is a transport mechanical engineer and holds a doctorate in economic management. His extensive career includes serving as vice chairman of Quang Ninh provincial people's committee, deputy minister of culture, sports and tourism, secretary of Quang Tri provincial party committee, secretary general of the National Assembly, and chairman of the National Assembly office.
He served as secretary of Can Tho city party committee from 9/2025.
