This policy aims to support travel and accommodation costs for officials and public employees who have been transferred to Can Tho's city center from the former Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces following the administrative restructuring.
Statistics show that around 1,800 administrative officials and 526 party and association officials are eligible for the allowance. The total estimated budget from the city is approximately 111 billion VND annually for two years, starting from the merger date.
After merging with Hau Giang and Soc Trang provinces, the new centrally-administered Can Tho City has 103 communes and wards, covering an area of over 6,360 km2, making it the third largest city in the Mekong Delta and the 19th largest nationwide. The city has a population of nearly 4.2 million and an economy worth approximately 282,000 billion VND.
