Chu Lai airport expansion proposed under PPP model

Da Nang People's Committee proposes to invest in and operate Chu Lai airport and its surrounding urban and economic ecosystem under a public-private partnership (PPP) model, aiming for a capacity of 10 million passengers per year.

The Da Nang People's Committee recently submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Construction, requesting the ministry to present to the Prime Minister a pre-feasibility study for the investment and operation of Chu Lai airport, along with its associated urban and economic ecosystem. The proposal suggests a PPP model and seeks approval for the investment plan.

The committee also requested the Ministry of Construction to approve adjustments to the detailed planning of Chu Lai airport to facilitate the investment preparation process.

Previously, the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee (now Da Nang City) submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport (now Ministry of Construction) for the socialization of investment and operation of Chu Lai airport.

The proposal outlines plans for a new runway measuring 3,048 x 45 meters, a taxiway system including parallel and connecting taxiways, aircraft parking with 32 to 40 positions, a passenger terminal with a capacity of 10 million passengers per year, a cargo terminal handling 1.5 million tons annually, and other supporting infrastructure.

The total estimated investment is approximately 11,000 billion VND, including 3,500 billion VND for the runway, 1,000 billion VND for the aircraft parking area, and 6,500 billion VND for the civil aviation area, excluding site clearance costs.

Currently, Chu Lai airport has a capacity of 1.2 million passengers per year. According to the master plan, the airport's capacity will increase to 10 million passengers by 2030, accommodating wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 747-8 or Airbus A380.
