Previously, the Quang Nam provincial People's Committee (now Da Nang City) submitted a proposal to the Ministry of Transport (now Ministry of Construction) for the socialization of investment and operation of Chu Lai airport.
The proposal outlines plans for a new runway measuring 3,048 x 45 meters, a taxiway system including parallel and connecting taxiways, aircraft parking with 32 to 40 positions, a passenger terminal with a capacity of 10 million passengers per year, a cargo terminal handling 1.5 million tons annually, and other supporting infrastructure.
The total estimated investment is approximately 11,000 billion VND, including 3,500 billion VND for the runway, 1,000 billion VND for the aircraft parking area, and 6,500 billion VND for the civil aviation area, excluding site clearance costs.
Currently, Chu Lai airport has a capacity of 1.2 million passengers per year. According to the master plan, the airport's capacity will increase to 10 million passengers by 2030, accommodating wide-body aircraft like the Boeing 747-8 or Airbus A380.
