A 10-meter-tall crane parked on Phung Hung Road was lowering a 7-ton concrete drainage pipe into a ditch when the ground beneath it gave way, causing the crane to tilt towards the stream. Workers above shouted warnings to the group below, but one worker couldn't escape in time and was crushed by the falling crane.
According to a witness, as the crane began to tilt, people yelled out warnings. Some workers were able to run across the stream and escape, but the victim ran along the stream and was struck. A worker on the crane also managed to jump clear.
