Crane operator killed after machine hits power lines, explodes

A crane moving trees in Ham Thang ward became entangled with three-phase power lines, leading to a large explosion and the driver's death on the morning of 30/3.

At approximately 8 a.m., Hoang Cong Hau, 23, was operating a crane, moving a tree about 4 meters tall for a customer at Hai Chau Ornamental Plant Facility on Hoang Minh Giam street, Dong Xuan An residential area, Ham Thang ward.

As the crane extended to hook the tree for lifting, its arm unexpectedly touched the power lines above. Electricity surged through the crane's body, causing a loud explosion with smoke and sparks.

The driver, trapped inside the cabin, died at the scene. The victim was thrown from the cabin.

Police and power company personnel arrived to cordon off the scene and manage the accident.
