The Ho Chi Minh City People's Council is holding its first session of the 11th tenure, 2026-2031, this morning to elect key leadership positions for both the city People's Council and People's Committee. This session marks the first meeting of the city People's Council following the recent elections for the 16th National Assembly and People's Councils at all levels for the 2026-2031 term.
The session, scheduled for one morning, will commence with reports from the City Election Committee on election results and the verification of delegate qualifications. Following these reports, certificates will be presented to the 11th-tenure Ho Chi Minh City People's Council delegates. National Assembly leaders and Ho Chi Minh City Party Secretary Tran Luu Quang are expected to attend and deliver directive speeches.
A primary focus of the session is the election of key officials. Delegates will elect the chairperson and vice-chairpersons of the city People's Council for the 2026-2031 term. After adopting resolutions to establish the 11th Ho Chi Minh City People's Council's committees—including the Law Committee, Economy-Budget Committee, Culture-Society Committee, and Urban Affairs Committee—delegates will then elect the heads of these committees for the new tenure.
Concurrently, the Ho Chi Minh City People's Council will elect the chairperson and vice-chairpersons of the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee, along with members of the city People's Committee for the 2026-2031 term. Additionally, People's Assessors for the Ho Chi Minh City People's Court will be chosen.
