The project addresses existing damage by replacing degraded rails and sleepers, reinforcing landslide-prone embankments, and improving the drainage system to protect the roadbed. Additionally, two railway-road crossings are being upgraded to enhance traffic safety.
At both Da Lat and Trai Mat stations, turnouts (train switching devices) are being replaced or adjusted to suit current operational needs. The roadbed within the station areas is also undergoing improvements to enhance stability and operational safety.
The nearly 7 km Da Lat - Trai Mat section represents the remaining part of the Thap Cham - Da Lat railway line. Constructed from 1908 and completed in 1932, it was once one of the world's few mountain-climbing rack railways.

The line ceased operation in 1968 due to war, leading to the dismantling of most rails and sleepers. In 1991, the Da Lat - Trai Mat section was restored for tourism and now stands as one of the highland city's characteristic attractions.
