Da Nang aims for digital economy to account for 27% of GRDP

Da Nang City is focusing on building an innovation ecosystem, setting a goal for the digital economy to contribute approximately 27% to its GRDP in the coming period.

Mr. Ho Quang Buu, Vice Chairman of Da Nang City People's Committee, shared this information at the "Frontier AI & Local Zones Innovation" high-level technology conference on 17/7. AWS, in collaboration with Renova Cloud, organized the event, which attracted over 100 delegates, including regulatory leaders, businesses, and technology experts.

Speaking at the conference, Mr. Ho Quang Buu stated that for Da Nang, the development of science and technology, innovation, and digital transformation are crucial drivers for growth. The city is currently focused on building an innovation ecosystem and developing digital infrastructure, data, artificial intelligence (AI), and semiconductors.

Da Nang currently has over 53,000 digital technology personnel, and the city provides 100% of eligible public services online. "Da Nang not only wishes to become a locality that effectively applies AI but also aims to be a place for developing, testing, and gradually forming AI products and solutions to serve socio-economic development," Mr. Buu said.

To achieve this goal, city leaders proposed three core solution groups: co-developing cloud computing and AI infrastructure at reasonable costs for small and medium-sized enterprises; expanding training for AI and cloud computing human resources; and promoting pilot projects applying AI in urban governance, tourism, healthcare, education, and manufacturing.

The city government commits to continuously improving the investment environment, creating optimal conditions for technology businesses to research, develop, and deploy new solutions. It also pledges to refine enterprise support mechanisms, foster innovation, and expand cooperation with leading global technology corporations.

Mr. Buu announced that on the afternoon of 17/7, the city launched a digital transformation plan for all local businesses. This program will be implemented continuously and synchronously across the city's 93 communes and wards. "We expect this journey to help businesses achieve digital transformation and double-digit growth," he added.

At the event, Mr. Eric Yeo, General Director of AWS Vietnam, observed that Da Nang possesses one of the most dynamic innovation ecosystems in the country, boasting high-quality human resources and a visionary local government.

According to Mr. Eric Yeo, the new AWS Local Zone infrastructure in Hanoi will equip Da Nang businesses with key elements for developing AI applications directly within Vietnam, such as low latency, in-country data storage, and compliance with strict security standards.

Sharing this perspective, Mr. Rajas Karandikar, Director of Growing Markets for AWS ASEAN, stated that this infrastructure provides businesses with single-digit millisecond latency, on-site data processing, and better support for AI and real-time data applications.

From the perspective of an implementation partner, Mr. Doron Shachar, CEO of Renova Cloud Vietnam, noted that AI is rapidly shifting towards intelligent assistants (AI Agents) capable of process automation. For effective application of this technology, businesses need to build clear strategies, prepare data well, and have sufficiently robust infrastructure.
