On the morning of 23/7, the Politburo announced and presented the decision to assign Nguyen Manh Hung to his new position.

Hung, 52, is a native of Vinh Long. He holds a Bachelor of Economics and is a 14th-term member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party.

His career includes serving as a specialist at the Office of the People's Council and People's Committee of Tay Ninh province. He then held several positions: Deputy Chief of the Provincial People's Committee Office, Director of the Department of Planning and Investment, Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, Secretary of the Go Dau District Party Committee, Secretary of the Tay Ninh City Party Committee, Standing Vice Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, and Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee.

In 3/2025, Hung was elected Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Tay Ninh province. Following the merger of Tay Ninh with Long An in 7/2025, he served as Standing Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee and Chairman of the People's Council of Tay Ninh province until his new appointment.

He was elected a member of the Central Committee of the Communist Party at the 14th Party Congress in January.

Vinh Long province is located in the central Mekong Delta, covering an area of 6,296 km2. It has a population of approximately 4.2 million and 124 commune-level administrative units. For the 2025-2030 period, Vinh Long aims to maintain an average Gross Regional Domestic Product (GRDP) growth of 10% annually, targeting a per capita GRDP of approximately 170 million dong by 2030.
