On 5/8, the Military Command of Da Nang City announced that specialized forces had excavated a shelter tunnel in hamlet 4, Phu Long village, Phu Thuan commune, following information from local residents.

According to witness accounts, during the resistance war, soldier Le Van Duong, originally from the former Ha Bac province, and a female soldier operating secretly, once took refuge there. Mr. Duong was known to crawl into civilian homes to ask for rice for his comrades in the tunnel.

Due to constant enemy searches and sweeps, the two soldiers could not leave the tunnel to find food and are believed to have died inside the tunnel.

After three days of continuous digging, on the evening of 4/8, authorities located the tunnel. Inside, many artifacts were found, including a rice cooker, a hammock, a three-pronged hoe, a first aid kit, dried food packaging, a document wrapped in faded mirror paper, and a shin bone fragment suspected to be from a martyr.

The city Military Command is expanding the search area and coordinating with specialized agencies to identify the bone fragment and verify the artifacts to clarify the martyr's identity.

Also on 4/8, authorities completed the exhumation of three martyr remains in Ngoc Kinh village, Ha Nha commune. The grave site, stretching about 15 meters, had been preserved and honored by local residents for many years. According to witnesses, this area was the scene of many fierce battles during the 1965-1974 period.

At the grave site, authorities discovered many skull, arm, and leg bone fragments, not intact due to the impact of bombs and bullets, along with a pith helmet shell, helmet strap, and fabric fragments. Based on initial information, specialized agencies believe the three remains may belong to special forces.

On the morning of 5/8, the People's Committee of Ha Nha commune organized a memorial and burial ceremony for the three remains at Dai Dong Martyrs' Cemetery. The identities, units, and times of sacrifice of the martyrs are currently being verified.
