Diverse ways Vietnamese fans celebrate victory on the streets

Fans took to the streets with pots, pans, horns, trophy replicas, costumes, and even braved the rain, creating vibrant celebrations after Vietnam's 2-0 victory over Thailand.

On the night of 22/8, a dense crowd filled Ton Duc Thang Street, stretching nearly 2 km from Me Linh Square - Tran Hung Dao statue to Ba Son bridge (former District 1), pouring into the streets to celebrate Vietnam's 2-0 victory over Thailand in the first leg of the ASEAN Cup 2026 final.

The streets buzzed with excitement as many fans carried national flags, pots, and pan lids to bang, accompanied by continuous horn blasts. This created a lively and unforgettable atmosphere throughout the night.

Standing on the Ba Son bridge railing, waving flags and cheering, Nguyen Duc Quan, 36, shared his surprise. He admitted he did not expect the Vietnam national team to score and win after the first half. "I hope the team continues to get a good result in the second leg so that I and everyone else can celebrate on the streets again," he said.

Among the celebrating crowd on Ton Duc Thang Street, Nguyen Thanh Sang, 26, held a replica of the championship trophy high, symbolizing the team's aspirations.

With a 2-0 away victory against Thailand, Vietnam now has the opportunity to win the Southeast Asian championship for the first time in two consecutive tournaments. If they win the title, the team will secure its 4th championship, matching Singapore and trailing Thailand by three titles.

Following Vietnam's 2-0 victory over Thailand, thousands flocked to the central area of TP HCM, carrying flags, horns, pots, pans, and other items to energize the atmosphere, turning the city into a sea of red.

Parents and young children brought pot and pan lids to the streets, banging them in rhythm, joining the celebratory atmosphere for Vietnam's victory. The rhythmic banging of pots and pans, combined with horns and cheers, made the streets even livelier until the early morning of 23/8.

In Vung Tau, a group of young people brought pots, pans, and a humorous sign to the streets, further livening up the celebratory atmosphere.

After the final whistle, coastal roads such as Quang Trung, Tran Phu, and Ha Long quickly became packed with people and vehicles. Thousands of fans carried national flags, rode in convoys, and cheered to celebrate Vietnam's 2-0 victory over Thailand, creating a joyous spectacle.

The road surface was partially flooded and slippery, making movement difficult. Many people were soaked, wearing raincoats, or holding umbrellas, yet they lingered, cheering, and waving flags amidst the traffic. The sounds of horns and shouts, mixed with the rain, created a vibrant atmosphere throughout the night. After the first leg match on the evening of 22/8 in Bangkok, the two teams will play the second leg at My Dinh Stadium at 20h (8 PM) on 26/8.","caption_items":"["",""]"}Reporting team
