Dong Nai center deeply flooded after heavy rain

A heavy rain lasting nearly an hour caused deep flooding on many central roads and key national highways in Dong Nai on the evening of 28/5.

Around 7 p.m., heavy rain accompanied by strong winds poured down on the urban area of Bien Hoa, with frequent lightning and thunder in many places. In wards such as Long Binh, Long Hung, and Tran Bien, the rain lasted for over one hour, leading to flooding on numerous roads like Bui Van Hoa, Ngo Quyen, and Vo Nguyen Giap, and causing trees to fall.

On Quoc lo 51, specifically the section passing through Cong 11 in Long Hung ward, water overflowed from alleys and streams, causing flooding more than halfway up car wheels and extending for hundreds of meters. Many vehicles stalled, forcing drivers to push them to find repair shops, while residents took temporary shelter on both sides of the road, waiting for the water to recede before continuing their journeys.

"My two sisters and I were traveling from Long Thanh to TP HCM. Our motorbikes stalled in this area, so we had to push them to find a repair shop", said Lan, a resident of Dong Hoa ward, TP HCM.

According to local residents, this was the largest rainfall since the beginning of the year. Trash from various areas floated into and became stuck in storm drains, preventing water from escaping quickly.

The flooding also caused traffic jams for many kilometers on Quoc lo 51, affecting the wards of Long Hung, Phuoc Tan, and Tran Bien. By approximately 9 p.m., the water had largely receded, and traffic returned to normal.

In recent days, Dong Nai and several neighboring localities have entered the transitional season, leading to frequent afternoon and evening rains. Two days prior, Bien Hoa also experienced hail during a thunderstorm.
