Le Quoc Phong, Secretary of the Dong Thap Provincial Party Committee, stated that the province has six industrial zones and 23 industrial clusters. Of these, 17 clusters are currently operating, attracting hundreds of domestic and foreign investment projects, and providing jobs for nearly 200,000 people. According to the development plan, between 2025 and 2030, the province will develop an additional 17 industrial zones and 45 industrial clusters, attracting an additional 750,000 workers.
"Over 60% of workers in the province lack stable housing and have to rent accommodations with difficult living conditions and high costs, affecting their work quality and efficiency," Phong said. He added that this project will contribute to the province's goal of building 13,900 social housing units by 2030.
Speaking at the groundbreaking ceremony, Deputy Prime Minister Mai Van Chinh noted that the Prime Minister has approved a project to build at least one million social housing apartments for low-income earners and industrial park workers from 2021 to 2030.
To date, 428,000 units have begun construction nationwide, reaching about 51% of the project's target, with over 220,000 completed. By the end of the year, localities are expected to complete an additional 64,644 units to stay on schedule.
The Deputy Prime Minister requested that the Dong Thap Provincial People's Committee and the Vietnam General Confederation of Labor provide the best possible conditions for the project's implementation, ensuring quality, timely completion, and safety.
