Dong Thap party secretary: No room for officials shirking responsibility

Dong Thap provincial party committee secretary Le Quoc Phong emphasized that after the provincial merger, there's no place for officials who avoid responsibility and are indifferent to residents and businesses.

Speaking at the first session of the 10th provincial People's Council (2021–2026 term), held on 2/7 at the Ap Bac meeting hall (My Tho ward), Mr. Phong highlighted the high demands on the responsibility and service spirit of officials, especially at the department and sector level.

He stated that while commune and ward officials directly ensure citizen satisfaction, provincial-level officials now play a key role in Dong Thap's development, both in terms of speed and quality.

"We place high demands on commune and ward officials, so with department and sector-level officials, the requirements must be even higher," the party secretary said. He added that this group needs to continuously innovate their thinking, improve working methods, focus on a constructive and service-oriented mindset, and use work progress and quality as measures of competence.

Mr. Phong emphasized that in this new phase, there's no room for leaders with parochial mindsets, lacking determination, avoiding responsibility, and showing indifference towards residents and businesses. He also stressed the need to avoid being uncritical, resistant to change, failing to encourage creativity, being detached from reality, and not ensuring work progress and quality.

The Dong Thap party secretary also demanded that the restructuring of the administrative apparatus not affect social security policies, public administrative services, land, household registration, education, healthcare, and other areas, ensuring practical benefits for the people.

On the same day, the provincial People's Council announced the National Assembly Standing Committee's resolution appointing Ms. Chau Thi My Phuong, deputy secretary of the Provincial Party Committee, as chairperson of the Provincial People's Council for the 2021–2026 term. Mr. Pham Van Chuan and Mr. Tran Thanh Nguyen were appointed as vice-chairpersons.

The meeting also passed a resolution establishing 12 specialized agencies under the Dong Thap provincial People's Committee, based on the merger of the former departments and sectors of Tien Giang and Dong Thap provinces. The number of civil servants remains the same, with a total payroll of over 1,890 people.
