Driver goes wrong way on highway to avoid longer route

Having missed her turn, a 64-year-old woman drove against traffic on highway N2B to avoid a 20 km detour.

On 5/8, the Dong Thap Province Police Department’s Traffic Police Division issued a ticket to a woman for driving against traffic.

Yesterday afternoon, the woman was driving a 4-seat car on highway N2B from Vam Cong bridge to Cao Lanh bridge. After passing the turnoff for highway 80, she suddenly made a U-turn and drove against the flow of traffic, forcing other drivers to brake abruptly.

When questioned by the police, she explained that she had missed her turn onto highway 80 and, wanting to avoid a long detour, drove against traffic for about 100 meters to reach the correct turnoff. According to Decree 168, the driver faces a fine of 18-20 million VND and 4 points deducted from her driver’s license.

According to the police, had she continued on the correct route, the woman would have had to drive approximately 20 km to reach the turnoff.

Highway N2B is a part of the North-South Expressway's western section, connecting Dong Thap and Can Tho City. However, it is not yet operating as an expressway.
