After 11 p.m. on 20/7, Nguyen Trong Bac, a resident of Thien Cam commune, was driving a five-seat car with his wife and two children southbound on Highway 1. Near Uu Trang village in Cam Xuyen commune, their car was rear-ended by a truck with a Ho Chi Minh City license plate driven by Duong Kiet Tam.
The impact sent Bac's car across the median into the northbound lanes, where it collided with a passenger bus with a Nghe An license plate driven by Nguyen Ngoc Chien.
Bac and his 9-year-old daughter were killed in the collision. His wife and son were seriously injured and are being treated at Ha Tinh Provincial General Hospital. The truck driver and the passengers on the bus were unharmed.
At the scene, the five-seat car was severely damaged in the front, with both front wheels almost detached. The truck and bus sustained minor damage. Debris and oil were scattered across the road.
Ha Tinh Provincial Police managed traffic flow, and the scene was cleared by 10 a.m. on 21/7. The cause of the accident is under investigation.
Bac was the vice principal of Yen Hoa Secondary School in the former Cam Xuyen district. His daughter was a primary school student in the area.
