About 20 minutes later, his 11-year-old child was swept away from the shore by waves. Noticing this, the tourist swam out, rescued the child, and pushed them safely closer to the shore. Tragically, he was then swept away by the current and disappeared.
Authorities and hundreds of local residents searched for him. His body was found at 17:20.
At 11:00 on the same day, a group of tourists from Hanoi were swimming at Cua Tung beach. Suddenly, four people—three adults and one child—were swept approximately 40 m offshore by a rip current.
Hoang Van Duc, a member of the Cua Tung Beach Management Board, noticed the four tourists being swept beyond the designated safe swimming area. Duc, along with Tran Van Hai and Nguyen Van Quang, grabbed rescue equipment and swam out to reach the victims.
After struggling for about 40 minutes against the strong waves and rip current, the rescue team successfully brought all four people safely to shore.
During the recent holiday period, Quang Tri experienced hot weather, attracting many tourists. Beaches were a popular choice for swimming. Authorities have warned that even with moderate waves, dangerous rip currents are common in nearshore areas. Both residents and tourists are urged to exercise caution when swimming, especially in areas prone to currents. Swimmers should always stay within designated safe zones to prevent being swept away.
