Fined for intentionally crossing railway tracks as train approached

A 36-year-old driver residing in Truong Ninh commune was fined 5 million dong and had his driver's license revoked for two months for intentionally driving a tractor-trailer across railway tracks despite the red light being on.

On 28/4, the Traffic Police Department of Quang Tri Provincial Police announced the administrative penalty decision against the driver was based on Decree 168/2024.

Earlier, after 16h on 15/4, at an automated railway crossing on the Long Dai - My Duc route in Truong Ninh commune, the driver of a tractor-trailer intentionally crossed the railway tracks when the red light was on, the automatic warning bell was ringing, the barrier was lowering, and a train was approaching.

Police stated that this action posed a risk of a particularly serious railway accident. Upon receiving the information, the Traffic Police Department verified the incident and issued an administrative violation record to the driver for crossing the railway tracks when the red light was on.

The Traffic Police Department advised that when traveling through intersections between roads and railways, people must strictly obey traffic lights, warning bells, and safety barriers. They should not intentionally cross railway tracks when warning signals are active. Just a few seconds of carelessness can lead to particularly serious consequences for themselves and many others.

Railways have long braking distances, and trains cannot stop suddenly like road vehicles. Therefore, obeying warning signals at railway crossings is a mandatory requirement to ensure the safety of lives and property.

The North-South railway line passing through Quang Tri province is over 250 km long and crosses 33 communes and wards. Along the line, there are 138 legal railway crossings: 48 guarded crossings, 85 automated warning crossings with automatic barriers, and 5 crossings protected by signs.
