Five-car pile-up on major route into Ho Chi Minh City

Four cars and a truck collided on the Rach Chiec bridge, Vo Nguyen Giap street, injuring one person and causing traffic jams on Tuesday morning.

After 9 a.m., a truck traveling on Vo Nguyen Giap street towards Hang Xanh roundabout from Thu Duc intersection, crossed the Rach Chiec bridge and suddenly rear-ended a seven-seater vehicle. This caused a chain reaction, pushing the seven-seater into two other cars. A woman sitting in the front passenger seat of one of the cars sustained minor injuries.

The damaged vehicles, with shattered windshields and windows, obstructed the road, causing traffic to halt for about an hour. One car's rear end and taillights were significantly damaged. Traffic police arrived to investigate the scene. According to the police, the accident was likely caused by drivers failing to maintain a safe following distance.

The 7.8 km section of Hanoi highway from Saigon bridge to Thu Duc intersection was renamed Vo Nguyen Giap street in 8/2023. This route is a major artery connecting the eastern gateway to the city center.
