Flight diverts to India for medical emergency

Vietnam Airlines flight VN56, traveling from London to Hanoi, made an emergency landing in Kolkata, India, to provide medical assistance to a passenger.

Vietnam Airlines flight VN56 departed from London Heathrow Airport on the evening of 6/7. Approximately 9 hours into the flight, a Danish passenger in seat 26E experienced a medical emergency. The flight crew administered initial first aid, but the passenger's condition did not improve.

The captain decided to make an emergency landing at Kolkata Airport in India and notified ground personnel to arrange medical support. The passenger, along with two accompanying relatives, was transported to a local medical facility for further observation.

After completing necessary procedures, flight VN56 resumed its journey to Hanoi, arriving at 3:43 PM local time on 7/7, approximately three hours behind schedule.

This incident follows a series of recent diversions by Vietnam Airlines flights for medical emergencies. On 30/6, flight VN7569 from Hanoi to Nha Trang had to land in Da Nang.

On 16/6, flight VN158 from Da Nang to Hanoi landed at Phu Bai Airport in Hue for a similar medical emergency. On 5/5/2025, flight VN35 from Hanoi to Frankfurt, Germany, landed at Erzurum Airport in Turkey.

The airline advises passengers experiencing any health concerns to consult a doctor before flying and carefully consider their travel plans.
