At a meeting on 28/7, the Secretariat determined that Duong Thanh Trung, former chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee, had violated Party regulations and state law. He was found to have degraded in political ideology, morality, and lifestyle, and breached the rules for Party members, failing to set an example.

The Secretariat stated that Trung's violations caused very serious consequences, sparking public outrage and severely damaging the reputation of the Party organization, local government, and the agencies where he worked.

Based on the nature, extent, and repercussions of his violations, the Secretariat decided to expel Duong Thanh Trung from the Party. Concurrently, they urged relevant authorities to promptly implement administrative disciplinary measures consistent with the Party's decision.

This expulsion follows the Ca Mau Provincial Police initiating legal proceedings against Trung 20 days prior. He is under investigation for violating regulations on compensation, support, and resettlement during state land acquisition. The alleged misconduct occurred while he served as Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee. Details of the case have not yet been publicly disclosed by the investigative agency.

Duong Thanh Trung, 65, is originally from Phuoc Long district. He holds a Master's in Law and advanced political theory. Throughout his career, he held various positions, including Head of the Provincial Party Committee's Organization Department, Secretary of Bac Lieu City Party Committee, and Deputy Secretary of the Provincial Party Committee. He was elected Chairman of Bac Lieu Provincial People's Committee in 12/2015 and served in this capacity until 11/2020.
