Dump truck crashes into Ho Chi Minh City store, four injured

A dump truck lost control, breaking through a median barrier and crashing into an optical store on To Ngoc Van Street in Ho Chi Minh City on 28/7, injuring four family members.

Four members of a family sustained injuries when a dump truck lost control and crashed into their optical store on To Ngoc Van Street, Ho Chi Minh City, on 28/7.

The incident occurred around 0h when a 31-year-old male driver was operating the truck, heading from Pham Van Dong intersection towards Thu Duc intersection. Approximately 500 meters from Thu Duc market, the vehicle suddenly swerved into the oncoming lane, crashed through dozens of meters of steel median barrier, and then collided with an optical store in Linh Xuan ward.

Dao Quan, 45, his wife, and their two children, 16 and 18, were sleeping inside the house at the time of the crash. The impact shattered the store's wall and warped the roller door, causing bricks, stones, and various objects to fall onto the family.

Neighbors quickly responded to the loud noise, rushing to assist in rescuing the victims. Mr. Quan recounted that their beds were positioned behind the display cabinets. These cabinets acted as a crucial barrier when the wall and roller door collapsed, preventing severe injuries. The four individuals sustained only minor scratches.

"I was sleeping when I heard a loud bang, then everything collapsed on me," Mr. Quan said.

At the scene, a section of the collapsed wall damaged two motorbikes. A refractometer, a tivi, and numerous electronic devices inside the store were also destroyed. The homeowner estimated the total damage to exceed 200 million VND.

Traffic police are investigating the scene to determine the exact cause of the accident. The driver initially reported losing control of the steering wheel.
