On 28/7, the Quang Ngai Provincial People's Council, 14th tenure, elected Tam as Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee for the 2026-2031 term. Tam replaces Nguyen Hoang Giang, the former Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee, who the Politburo assigned as Deputy Head of the Central Policy and Strategy Board starting 23/7.

Speaking at his inauguration, the new Chairman of Quang Ngai Provincial People's Committee stated his commitment to work with the provincial leadership to unblock and effectively mobilize resources. He aims for double-digit growth, making the people's happiness the ultimate measure of success.
The Provincial People's Committee will focus on smoothly operating the two-tier local government model, streamlining its apparatus, enhancing discipline, and improving service quality for citizens and businesses. Quang Ngai also prioritizes investment in strategic infrastructure, digital transformation, administrative reform, and the development of education, healthcare, social welfare, and high-quality human resources.
One day prior, the Secretariat appointed Tam as Deputy Secretary of the Quang Ngai Provincial Party Committee for the 2025-2030 term and simultaneously nominated him for election as Chairman of the Provincial People's Committee.

Nguyen Duc Tam, born in 1981, is a native of Hung Yen and holds a Master's degree in economics. He began his career at the Ministry of Planning and Investment in 2003, serving as Deputy Director of the Business Registration Management Agency, Chief of Staff of the Ministry, Director of the Department of Local and Territorial Economy, and Director of the Department of National Economic Synthesis.
In 10/2024, he was appointed Deputy Minister of Planning and Investment. After this agency merged with the Ministry of Finance in early 2025, he held the position of Deputy Minister of Finance. In this role, he was responsible for local economic development, private enterprises, collective economy sectors, and directed the National Innovation Center.
