General secretary and five politburo members receive voter confidence for national assembly candidacy

General Secretary To Lam and five politburo members residing in Ba Dinh ward, Hanoi, received 100% approval from voters attending a confidence-building meeting for their candidacy in the 16th National Assembly.

The Vietnam Fatherland Front Committee of Ba Dinh ward, in coordination with the Ba Dinh People's Committee, organized a meeting to gather feedback and confidence from residential voters regarding candidates for the 16th National Assembly, 2026-2031 term.

During the meeting, voters were introduced to the standards for National Assembly delegates and received brief biographies of the 7 candidates residing in the area. These candidates included: General Secretary To Lam; National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man; Permanent Member of the Secretariat Tran Cam Tu; Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Van Chien; Head of the Central Organization Commission Le Minh Hung; Head of the Central Internal Affairs Commission Le Minh Tri; and Head of the President's Office Le Khanh Hai.

After reviewing their records and work history, voters unanimously agreed that all 7 candidates met the full standards and conditions for the 16th National Assembly candidacy. They possess political qualities, ethics, competence, and prestige, having completed duties in many key central leadership positions.

Voters noted that, in their residential areas, the candidates maintained close ties with residents, fulfilled their civic duties, and actively promoted the Party's guidelines, State's policies, and laws. The voting results showed that 100% of voters attending the meeting approved the 7 candidates.

Representing the candidates, Permanent Vice Chairman of the National Assembly Do Van Chien thanked the voters for their confidence. He stated that this trust serves as a motivation for them to continue refining their qualities, maintaining political steadfastness, striving to complete their duties, listening to public opinions, and contributing to the development and perfection of institutions and legal policies.

Previously, the first consultative conference allocated 975 candidates for the 16th National Assembly across 34 provinces and cities, which is 1.95 times the number of delegates expected to be elected. The second consultative conference then agreed on a list of 217 candidates nominated by central agencies.

According to the proposed structure, the 16th National Assembly will have 500 delegates: 217 from central agencies and 283 from local areas. The central bloc includes representatives from Party agencies, the President's Office, National Assembly agencies, the Government and government-affiliated bodies, the Ministry of National Defense, and the Ministry of Public Security.

The local bloc comprises: key provincial and city leaders; full-time National Assembly delegates serving in National Assembly delegations; representatives of the Vietnam Fatherland Front; religious delegates; military personnel; police officers; members of the People's Courts; and members of the People's Procuracies.

Election day for the 16th National Assembly delegates and new-term People's Councils at all levels is scheduled for sunday, 15/3.
