Traffic police officer killed after being struck by truck during inspection

A traffic police officer was killed instantly on National Highway 1B on midday 4/2 after a dump truck collided with him while he was interacting with a truck owner.

Around 11:30 on 4/2, on National Highway 1B in Cao Ngan ward, Thai Nguyen province, a traffic police officer was working with the owner of a Hung Yen-plated box truck when a dump truck crashed into them from behind. The dump truck then struck the rear of the box truck before stopping. The officer died on the spot, and the truck owner was critically injured.

Dashcam footage revealed the dump truck swerved to overtake another truck, causing the accident. At the time of the collision, the box truck was parked close to the roadside, leaving one lane clear for other vehicles.

At the scene, the front of the box truck had crashed into a tree. The dump truck spun sideways, blocking most of the roadway, and its front was damaged.

Authorities quickly cordoned off the scene to conduct an examination and investigate the cause of the accident.

National Highway 1B spans 135 km. It begins at the intersection with National Highways 1A and 4A in Lang Son province and concludes at the Tan Long roundabout in Thai Nguyen.
