Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway closed after two-truck collision

A two-truck collision led to the temporary closure of the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway near Tuy Phong commune on the afternoon of 4/2, causing traffic congestion for about one kilometer in the southbound-northbound direction.

The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway was temporarily closed on the afternoon of 4/2 following a two-truck collision that caused significant traffic congestion. The incident occurred around 2 PM when a truck carrying goods, bearing a Ho Chi Minh City license plate, was traveling on the expressway. As it reached the section passing through Tuy Phong commune in Binh Thuan, the truck unexpectedly rear-ended another truck traveling in the same direction.

Following the impact, the front of the rear truck became severely damaged and stuck to the back of the vehicle in front. The driver of the truck that caused the accident sustained minor injuries and was assisted out of the cabin by local residents and authorities.

At the scene, the two damaged vehicles blocked over half of the road, leading to local traffic congestion for about one kilometer. Vehicles, especially trucks and containers, were unable to pass through the affected area.

Traffic police patrolling the expressway arrived to direct traffic and temporarily closed the Cho Lau interchange. Vehicles traveling northbound from Ho Chi Minh City were rerouted to National Highway 1 in Bac Binh district to continue their journey. Authorities are currently investigating the cause of the accident.

The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway spans over 100 kilometers, connecting Binh Thuan with provinces in the South Central region. It began operations in 2023, easing congestion on National Highway 1 and reducing travel times. However, the route has experienced frequent accidents due to heavy traffic.
