Handover of two National Route 51 toll stations for demolition by 15/4

The investor of the National Route 51 BOT project has agreed to hand over two toll stations, T1 and T2, to authorities for demolition following numerous discussions aimed at ensuring traffic safety.

On 10/4, the Dong Nai Department of Construction announced that Bien Hoa - Vung Tau Expressway Development Joint Stock Company (BVEC), the investor of the National Route 51 expansion project, has agreed to hand over two toll stations: T1 in Tam Phuoc ward and T2 in Long Phuoc commune. The handover is expected to be completed by 15/4, allowing local authorities to coordinate with Road Management Zone IV for demolition.

This action follows numerous discussions between BVEC and the Ministry of Construction, based on a proposal from the Dong Nai Provincial People's Committee to mitigate traffic safety risks at the toll station locations.

According to the Department of Construction, following demolition, all parties will inventory the current state, confirm material quantities, and organize the transportation and preservation of recovered materials, which will then be handed over to Road Management Zone IV for storage. During the period awaiting demolition, BVEC will continue to maintain barriers, lighting, signs, and other safety measures.

National Route 51, spanning 72 km, serves as a vital transportation artery connecting Ho Chi Minh City and Dong Nai. In 2009, BVEC was tasked with implementing a BOT project to expand the route, with a total investment of nearly 3,800 billion VND. The expanded route became operational in 4/2013. The contract stipulated a toll collection period of 20 years and six months, extending until 12/1/2030. However, toll collection at all three stations—T1, T2, and T3—was temporarily halted in 1/2023.

In late 2025, the Vietnam Road Administration instructed BVEC to dismantle the toll stations along the route. At the time, the company stated it could not comply because the toll collection rights at the three stations were pledged as collateral for loans. Altering this status required bank approval, which had not been secured.

Previously, in 2/2026, toll station T3 in Ho Chi Minh City was dismantled.
