On the morning of 2/8, the Hanoi People's Committee launched a city-wide cleanup campaign across 126 communes and wards. Chairman Tran Si Thanh stated that this initiative demonstrates the city's strong commitment and responsibility to building a "Bright - Green - Clean - Beautiful," civilized, and modern capital.

In recent years, progress has been made in environmental sanitation, urban embellishment, and fostering civilized lifestyles in the city. However, Mr. Thanh acknowledged that issues persist, including lingering residential waste, illegal advertising, sidewalk and roadway encroachment, and unresolved inner-city river pollution. He also noted that environmental awareness among some officials and residents remains limited.
"We cannot allow waste to be dumped improperly, littering the streets and spoiling the urban landscape; nor can we tolerate dumping waste into rivers and lakes, polluting water sources; or burning garbage and agricultural byproducts, polluting the air and impacting the quality of our living environment," the Hanoi chairman said.

The head of Hanoi's administration explained that the simultaneous cleanup across 126 communes and wards is not merely a one-time event. It's intended as a broad-reaching movement to gradually shift public awareness and action. He emphasized that city-wide cleaning should become a regular activity, occurring every Friday in offices and every Saturday in residential communities.
Mr. Thanh called upon all officials, party members, and residents of the capital to take concrete actions, from small gestures like disposing of waste properly to maintaining cleanliness in living and working spaces. He urged everyone to actively participate in community activities, making environmental protection a cultural norm and daily habit.
After the launch ceremony, Mr. Thanh joined sanitation workers from the Hanoi Urban Environment One Member Limited Liability Company in cleaning the flower gardens and surrounding areas of the August Revolution Square.
