On the morning of 17/4, around 10 AM, the LP6 passenger train, operating on the Hai Phong - Hanoi route, developed a fire in carriages 15 and 16 as it passed the Phu Luong bridge area, Hai Duong ward, Hai Phong City.
Witnesses reported black smoke emerging from a carriage as the train, which had departed Hai Phong station at 9:10 AM, approached Tien Trung station. Onboard crew attempted to extinguish the flames using available equipment, but the fire rapidly spread to an adjacent carriage.
The presence of flammable materials like leather seats and foam cushions inside the carriages fueled the blaze, causing it to intensify and produce thick smoke. The train made an emergency stop at Phu Luong bridge, where the two burning carriages were detached from the locomotive and the rest of the train to prevent further spread. Firefighters quickly arrived and brought the blaze under control.
A representative from Vietnam Railways Corporation stated that the initial cause was identified as a malfunction in the train's air conditioning system. Fortunately, these two carriages were not carrying passengers at the time of the incident, resulting in no reported casualties. Passengers disembarked and the operating company provided hired cars to transport them to the station.
The Hanoi - Hai Phong railway line, approximately 102 kilometers long, serves as an important passenger transport route in the northern region, connecting the capital with the region's largest seaport. Trains on this line typically operate multiple daily trips, catering to travel and tourism needs between the two cities.
