The Hanoi Railway Company announced on 12/2 that bus passengers will receive single-trip tickets marked with the route's value but will not pay. For metro services, passengers can obtain free tickets at counters or through the Hanoi Metro app.
Passengers using regular or priority monthly passes, as well as existing free passes (physical or virtual cards), can present them to access the services.

To accommodate passenger travel needs, the two metro lines will operate throughout the Tet holiday. On New Year's Eve (the 29th day of Tet), trains will run from 5:30 h on the preceding day until 2 h the following day. On the first day of Tet, trains will operate from 10 h to 18 h; on the second day, from 8 h to 19 h; and on the third day, from 6 h to 20 h. For the 4th, 5th, and 6th days of Tet, services will run from 5:30 h to 22 h.
This is not the first time Hanoi has offered free bus and metro fares. Most recently, during the 2/9 holiday last year, the Hanoi People's Committee provided free bus and metro services for residents and tourists.
A representative from the Hanoi Railway Company stated that offering free bus and metro travel during the 2026 Lunar New Year holiday is a practical initiative, demonstrating the government's commitment to its citizens.
