Around 2 PM on 14/12, drivers operating vehicles on the Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway, heading southbound, encountered a herd of buffaloes running on the road near Cam Due commune. Many vehicles had to slow down, honk, and swerve to avoid hitting the livestock.
Drivers reported that the incident occurred during rainfall, making the road slippery and visibility limited. The presence of buffaloes on the expressway posed a significant traffic accident risk.
Road Management Office II.3, under Road Management Area II, indicated that the buffaloes likely entered the main expressway from its protective corridor in Cam Due commune. This was reportedly due to some residents dismantling fences to allow their livestock to graze. The buffaloes ran for approximately 250 meters on the expressway before authorities herded them off through an opening near a flood drainage bridge.
Currently, Road Management Office II.3 is working with the Ha Tinh Provincial Police's Traffic Police Department to document the incident and address the buffalo owner.
The Ham Nghi - Vung Ang expressway spans nearly 54 kilometers and involved a total investment exceeding 9,700 billion VND. Construction began in 2023, and the entire route opened for operation on 28/4. Phase one features four lanes, with a maximum speed limit of 90 km/h and a minimum of 60 km/h.
