Multiple-vehicle accident on HCMC - Long Thanh expressway leaves one dead

A male driver died after being trapped in his crushed cabin following an unexpected accident involving two trucks and a tractor-trailer on the HCMC - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway on the morning of 4/2.

The incident occurred shortly after 4 a.m., when a male driver was operating a truck on the HCMC - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway, heading from Dong Nai towards TP HCM. His vehicle collided with a tractor-trailer traveling ahead, just past the intersection with Nguyen Duy Trinh street in Long Truong ward.

Moments after the initial impact, another truck crashed into the scene from behind, triggering a chain of multiple collisions. The truck caught between the two other vehicles suffered a severely crushed cabin. The driver was trapped inside and died at the scene.

The accident caused significant disruption, with the three damaged vehicles blocking a lane and creating a traffic jam of approximately 5 km on the expressway, stretching towards the An Phu roundabout (formerly Thu Duc City). Traffic police quickly arrived to manage the scene and investigate the cause.

The HCMC - Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway spans 55 km, connecting TP HCM and Dong Nai. Since its opening in 2015, the expressway has been the site of dozens of vehicle fires and accidents. Plans are currently underway to double the width of the section passing through TP HCM, expanding it from 4 to 8 lanes to improve capacity and safety.
