On 28/7, Nguyen Quoc Chanh, director of Quoc Chanh Co., Ltd. (the investor), said the route now has 5 ferries in operation, with the recent addition of one more vessel. Each ferry can carry 200-300 passengers, 20-40 cars, and 100 motorbikes.
"In addition to these, we are building a larger ferry, 47 meters long and 12 meters wide, with a capacity of 300 passengers, 40 cars, and over 100 motorbikes. The new ferry is expected to be operational in early 2026," Chanh said.
According to the operator, since Ba Ria - Vung Tau merged with Ho Chi Minh City, travel between Vung Tau ward and Can Gio, and into downtown Ho Chi Minh City, has increased significantly. Besides tourism, many people now use this route for their daily commute.
Recently, the ferry terminal experienced prolonged congestion due to a large number of vehicles diverting to this route after two main roads connecting Ho Chi Minh City with Vung Tau, the Long Thanh - Dau Giay expressway and National Highway 1 (the section passing through Tan Van intersection), implemented traffic restrictions for construction projects.

Currently, in addition to the fixed hourly departures, the investor said they are also increasing ferry frequency based on actual passenger volume. If passengers arrive early, ferries can depart immediately instead of waiting for the scheduled time, saving time and reducing congestion.
"We are closely monitoring travel demand to determine the need for building and adding more ferries to increase capacity at the terminal," Chanh added.
The Can Gio - Vung Tau ferry service, launched in early 2021, is the first route in Ho Chi Minh City invested in by a private enterprise. The 15-km route connects Tac Suat wharf in Can Thanh town (Can Gio) with the former Vung Tau City. The ferry shortens the journey from Can Gio to Vung Tau to 30 minutes, compared to three and a half hours by road.
The ferry terminal currently operates from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. daily. Passenger tickets cost 70,000 VND per trip. Vehicles are subject to additional fees, with the lowest being 50,000 VND for motorbikes and bicycles. Cars with 4-9 seats and pickup trucks are charged 350,000 VND; 12-16 seats, 450,000 VND; 17-25 seats, 600,000 VND; and 26 seats or more, 800,000 VND. For trucks, the lowest fee is 400,000 VND for those under three tons, and the highest is one million VND for trucks eight tons or more.
