Hue city to build 22 resettlement areas for high-speed rail project

With nearly 900 households needing relocation for the north-south high-speed rail project, Hue city plans to build 22 resettlement areas, starting on 19/8.

Vo Thi Que Huong, deputy director of the city's finance department, said the north-south high-speed rail line through Hue is designed to be 95.08 km long. The city expects to acquire 825 hectares of land, impacting over 8,100 households, of which nearly 900 will need resettlement. The city will build 22 resettlement areas and six cemeteries, with a total cost of around 1,400 billion VND.

According to Ms. Huong, communes and wards are surveying the areas where the north-south high-speed rail line will pass, proposing compensation plans. To ensure timely resettlement and stable living conditions for residents, Hue city plans to invest in and simultaneously commence construction of several resettlement areas on 19/8, following the prime minister's directive.

Le Cong Dien, deputy director of Hue city's construction department, added that the route, location, and scale of the station and maintenance depot for the high-speed rail project passing through the city have been largely determined. The Hue station is planned to be located in My Thuong ward, and the Chan May station in Chan May - Lang Co commune. As the route mainly traverses plains, it will minimally affect houses and historical sites.

The north-south high-speed rail project received investment approval from the national assembly in 11/2024, with a preliminary total capital of about 1.7 quadrillion VND (67 billion USD). The 1,541 km long, 1,435 mm double-track line, designed for speeds of 350 km/h, will have 23 passenger stations and five freight stations, passing through 20 provinces and cities from Ngoc Hoi (Hanoi) to Thu Thiem (Ho Chi Minh city). In addition to public investment, the national assembly has permitted the project to be implemented through public-private partnerships (PPP) or business investment.
