Hue residents move cars, motorbikes to avoid floods

Water levels in rivers rise, threatening widespread flooding, prompting residents in central Hue city to move cars and motorbikes to bridge foundations and high ground on november 17.

On november 17, floodwaters from the upstream Huong river overflowed the Dap Da weir. Many riverside roads along the Nhu Y, An Cuu, and Dong Ba rivers were inundated by 0.5 meters. The Public Administration Park on To Huu street, being on high ground, became a parking spot for many residents from Aranya, Xuan Phu, and Vicoland apartment complexes in Vy Da ward, who moved their cars there to avoid the floods.

Dien Bien Phu street in Thuan Hoa ward, located on elevated terrain, saw hundreds of cars parked bumper-to-bumper along both sides.

On Vo Nguyen Giap street, passing through Thanh Thuy ward, cars lined up along one side. During the flood from october 26 to november 3, thousands of residents' cars and motorbikes were submerged and damaged when the Huong river's water level exceeded level three alert by a meter, inundating 32 out of 40 communes and wards of Hue city by 1-3 meters.

While floodwaters had not yet entered the Imperial City of Hue, many residents living there moved their cars to the Eo Bau area to avoid potential flooding. In the previous flood, many avoided their vehicles being submerged by parking there.

The intersection of Trinh Cong Son, Chi Lang, and Bach Dang streets at the Gia Hoi bridge slope in Phu Xuan ward was chosen by many residents to park their cars and motorbikes. On the bridge, police were on duty, preventing people from parking on the bridge deck to avoid obstructing traffic.

The slope of the Thuy Duong overpass, connecting to Vo Chi Cong street in Thanh Thuy ward, was another location where many residents parked their cars. Most of these residents live in the new An Cuu and An Van Duong urban areas, which are low-lying parts of Hue city.

Ron, a resident of Phu Xuan ward, helped his relatives move their vehicles onto Dong Ba bridge to avoid the floods. He stated that during the recent flood, several of his family's motorbikes were submerged, costing one million dong in repairs afterward.

Fearing theft, residents chained their motorbikes to the sidewalk of Dong Ba bridge. Police from Phu Xuan ward reminded residents to park neatly, ensuring clear passage for ambulances and rescue vehicles if needed.

Bach Dang street, located along the Dong Ba river, was deeply inundated by over 0.5 meters. Many residents living on Bach Dang, Nguyen Chi Thanh, and Nguyen Du streets moved their vehicles onto Dong Ba bridge, which spans the Dong Ba river in Phu Xuan ward, to escape the floods.

The National Center for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting predicted that from tonight until tomorrow night, Hue city to Da Nang city, and the eastern parts of Quang Ngai and Dak Lak provinces will continue to experience heavy rain, with widespread rainfall of 200-400 millimeters, and some areas locally receiving over 700 millimeters. Over the next 6-12 hours, floodwaters on the Bo river, Huong river (Hue), and Vu Gia river (Da Nang) are expected to remain at high levels, at or above level three alert.
