Truck collision closes Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway

A collision between two trucks left one driver trapped and seriously injured, forcing the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway to close for rescue operations on the morning of 13/12.

On the morning of 13/12, a delivery truck from a Ho Chi Minh City-based company was traveling northbound on the Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway. Shortly after 8h, as it reached the section passing through Bac Binh commune, it rear-ended a cargo truck from Da Nang traveling in the same direction.

The impact caused the delivery truck to lurch forward for more than ten meters before coming to a halt, its cabin severely deformed. The driver was trapped inside and unable to escape.

Rescue forces quickly arrived at the scene. Using specialized equipment, they worked to break open the cabin and extract the victim, who was then rushed to emergency care with severe injuries.

Traffic police, in coordination with the route management unit, temporarily closed the expressway section from Vinh Hao intersection to Cho Lau intersection to facilitate accident management. Vehicles were diverted to national highway 1 to continue their journeys. The cause of the accident is currently under investigation.

The Vinh Hao - Phan Thiet expressway spans over 100 km through Binh Thuan province. As part of the eastern North-South expressway, it features four lanes and a maximum speed of 90 km/h. Since September, the route has experienced frequent landslides and flooding following heavy rains, consistently impacting traffic flow.

In a separate incident around 9h30 on 13/12, a Hanoi-registered passenger bus carrying ten people was traveling north-south on national highway 14. Upon reaching Bien Ho commune in Gia Lai, it collided with a car parked on the roadside. The strong impact caused the bus to swerve, blocking the road and creating local traffic congestion.

At the scene, the front of the bus was deformed, its glass shattered, and the front axle broken. Two passengers sustained severe injuries: one suffered a broken leg, and the other had abdominal trauma. Both required emergency hospitalization.

National highway 14 is a vital route connecting the Central Highlands with the North Central Coast and the Southeast. Its high traffic volume frequently poses accident risks.
