On the afternoon of 20/9, the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee held a press conference regarding the forced land reclamation in Hamlet 7, Song Doc Commune, where Tien leased the land in 2012. According to the contract, the land was designated for production and business activities. However, Tien illegally subleased and transferred the land.

The inspection concluded by the former Tran Van Thoi District authorities revealed that 16 households received the transferred land from Tien, resulting in 14 houses and two vacant lots. By 2019, the land had been further divided into 39 lots involving 35 households, with many permanent structures built without permission. The district issued numerous decisions for forced eviction and remediation, but most households failed to comply.
According to the Song Doc Commune People's Committee, the prolonged issue stems from lax management and delayed action by local authorities. Some officials or their relatives were even involved in the land transfers. This led residents to believe the transactions were legal, resulting in further transfers.

Currently, 10 land plots have been handed over, while 25 plots (23 households) face forced eviction. The authorities stated that the households are not eligible for on-site resettlement due to land-use planning conflicts, but their eligibility for on-site business operations will be considered.
Nguyen Minh Luan, Vice Chairman of the Ca Mau Provincial People's Committee, affirmed that the situation will be resolved decisively, with individual responsibilities clarified. He also directed local authorities to assess and support affected households to stabilize their lives.
